As the author states in his introduction, this is a book that assumes experience in forging and blade making. It explains in great detail the processes required to build up a pattern welded bar, to be used to make a sword or knife, including: the different metals that can be used, forge welding, layering and twisting to produce the patterns, grinding the blade, heat treating and tempering and finally, finishing.
