The Shetland Anchor is a 45 minute film documenting the making, in three days, of a two-thirds sized anchor in Shetland. It takes the form of a ‘fly on the wall’ film, with voice over to explain essential steps. The project was undertaken at the forge of Bruce Wilcock.
The anchor was made using only traditional techniques, including a huge fire welded tenon, with fillets at the crown.
This film shows an historic process that is part of our island heritage, and was repeated countless times in the past. These skills may not be commonplace now, but at least this part of our maritime history has been recorded.
