The title indicates the contents of the book. Black and white photographs of work made and installed during the 1700s, in France. Gates, railings, staircases, grilles, screens and balconies are all here. Most of the work is forged, but there is some cast work also. As to be expected of the period, much of the work is extremely ornate, but there are also examples of comparatively 'bare' work, showing clean, simple lines.
