The images are drawn from over 50 centuries and from cultures across the world, from prehistoric rock paintings, ancient Egypt and the Middle East, to Medieval art, tribal art from the Americas, Africa, Australia and the east, to European artists including Hieronymus Bosch, Durer, Max Ernst and others.
These designs originally embellished a wide range of items, from textiles, to earthenware, architecture, jewellery, manuscripts and many more sources.
