Il Letto E Dintorni Non-member price £70 All text in Italian and English "We are confronted with too many signs, too many advertising campaigns which present "real wrought-iron" beds. These are all signs made by industries who have got hold of designs, from any period or in any style whatsoever, and who offer them on the market. This confuses even the shrewdest reader who can no longer distinguish a product of craftsmanship from a mass produced one." From the introduction by Giuseppe Ciscato Guiseppe Ciscato has taken a rather interesting stand on this problem that confronts us all. He invited artist blacksmiths to choose from about 80 designs, created for this purpose by 10 designers from different artistic and professional fields, and then to create the bed of their chosen design. Some blacksmiths chose the same designs, but each has interpreted the design in their own way. Many were so inspired by the exercise that they went on to create their own beds and bedroom furniture, which is also featured in the book. The result is a book full of photographs of beds, bedroom furniture and accessories that range from fairly classical through clean, flowing lines to modern, vibrant designs. As background to the artist blacksmiths involved there is also a page dedicated to each, with images of other pieces of work.
